As a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, former educator, and long-time advocate for quality education, I bring both passion and experience to my candidacy for
re-election for Position 1 for Collierville Schools.
I believe quality education does not happen by accident. It takes planning, projection, protection, passion, and most importantly partnership.
This is REACHING THE CORE OF QUALITY EDUCATION.
My husband Clyde and I have been blessed to share nearly 53 wonderful years together. Clyde, a retired FedEx manager, now works as an electrical specialist at Home Depot. We are the proud parents of three daughters who attended Collierville Schools from kindergarten through high school. Today, they’ve excelled in their fields—one as a Doctor of Pharmacy, and two as dedicated teachers at Tara Oaks, Crosswind Elementary, and Bailey Station Elementary.
As a retired teacher with over 30 years of experience in Collierville, Germantown, and Byhalia, education is a passion I’ve carried throughout my life. I earned my BS from Blue Mountain College, my MS from the University of Memphis, and continued my professional development at Cumberland University.
My five grandchildren carry on this legacy, with four having graduated from Collierville High and continuing their education at universities here in Tennessee. My youngest grandchild is a rising third grader living in Arkansas, and I couldn’t be prouder of all of them. As I run for re-election to the school board, I remain deeply committed to the success and growth of our students, schools, and community.
I actively support students and educators by regularly visiting schools and participating in and attending school and community activities. Outside of education, I serve as a Sunday School teacher and Vice Chair of the Women’s Ministry at New Shelby Missionary Baptist Church. My community involvement has included roles with the Town Beautiful Commission, Collierville Literacy Council, Shelby County Election Commission, Collierville High School Band Boosters, and the Collierville NAACP.
I am committed to fostering an environment where every student can achieve academic excellence in a safe and supportive setting. Quality education is not an accident—it’s built through careful planning, passion, and strong partnerships. I believe in the triangular partnership between students, parents, and teachers, supported by administrators, school board members, and the community. This approach ensures that our students not only face academic challenges but also grow into well-rounded individuals prepared to serve their communities.
I have received many accolades in my educational career, including being named "Teacher of the Month" by the Collierville Rotary Club twice and honored as "Shelby County Education Association Distinguished Teacher of the Year" at Collierville Elementary. I was also recognized as "Byhalia Elementary Teacher of the Year." Additionally, I was presented with the Tennessee PTA Honorary Life Membership by the Collierville Elementary School PTA.
Since my appointment by the Collierville Board of Mayor and Aldermen in 2019 and my election to the school board in 2020, I have worked to create policies that promote academic rigor and student safety. I’ve been deeply involved in overseeing the budget, collaborating with the superintendent, and approving plans that ensure resources are allocated effectively to enhance student learning. I’ve also played a key role in evaluating and managing school facilities, ensuring they are well-maintained and conducive to learning. Through continuous engagement with parents, students, teachers, and the broader community, I’ve ensured that open communication remains a cornerstone of our decision-making process.
As a former educator with over 30 years of teaching experience in Germantown, Collierville, and Byhalia Elementary Schools, I understand the unique needs of our students and teachers and believe in the power of education. My experience has given me a deep understanding how to create a nurturing environment where students can thrive academically and personally.
Nearing Level 3 in the Tennessee School Board Association (Boardmanship), reflecting my commitment to effective governance and educational excellence, open communication remains a cornerstone of our decision-making process.
With your trust, I am eager to continue promoting "scholarship, integrity, and service" in our schools. We’ve made great strides, but there is still much work to be done. Together, we can ensure that Collierville Schools remain a shining example of academic excellence, safety, and community collaboration.
